NIALL FERGUSON on the economic recovery

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
By Belfer Center

“The administration earlier this year forecast that the economy would grow next year by 3.5 percent, then by 4 percent, then by 4.5 percent after that. I think that’s highly unlikely to happen. My guess is that the economy will grow in real terms at closer to 2 percent a year for the next few years.”

Niall Ferguson, a member of the Belfer Center’s board of directors, was interviewed on “The Charlie Rose Show” on November 3, 2009.

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
By Belfer Center

“There is no doubt that China currently is suffering from the global collapse in demand for a wide range of manufactured products. The sharp drop in retail sales in the United States and Europe means fewer orders for the goods produced in Chinese factories.”

Martin Feldstein, a member of the Belfer Center’s board of directors, wrote “China’s Recovery and Global Growth,” which the Korea Herald published on April 13, 2009.

CALESTOUS JUMA on economic transformation

Friday, November 21st, 2008
By Belfer Center

“The priority is infrastructure. No country will progress far without public utilities such as power, telecommunications, water, sanitation, irrigation and waste disposal, without social infrastructure such as schools, housing and hospitals, without transport networks such as roads, railways, ports, waterways and airports, and without laboratories and other research facilities.”

Calestous Juma, director of the Belfer Center’s Science, Technology, and Globalization Project and member of the Center’s board of directors, wrote “Learn to Earn,” which Nature published in their October 30, 2008 issue.
