The attacks of September 11, 2001 underscored the need for law enforcement agencies to develop and maintain effective strategies in the fight against terrorism. To advance that mission, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) has created a unique platform, which includes a cadre of civilian analysts, known as Intelligence Research Specialists, who monitor potential threats to New York City. Intelligence Research Specialists produce a range of highly sensitive reports and provide tactical analytic support to law enforcement and intelligence operations.
