Description:

Edward J. Blakely was appointed Executive Director for Recovery Management for the city of New Orleans in December 2006. Recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in urban and regional planning, Blakely organized and led the Oakland response to the Bay Area earthquake in 1988, the Oakland wildfire in 1991, and became one of the leaders in the New York City recovery effort following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. He serves on a number of task forces and commissions at the local, state, national and international levels on urban disaster recovery.

The Kennedy School Broadmoor Project seeks to facilitate and support civic engagement in the redevelopment process in the Broadmoor neighborhood of New Orleans; foster cross-sectoral partnerships; build local planning and leadership capacity; and create a focused and sustained contribution to the redevelopment process in New Orleans.
