Henry Steiner taught for over four decades at Harvard Law School. Always international in his interests, Steiner ultimately concentrated on international human rights. He founded the school's Human Rights Program in 1984, and directed it until he became professor emeritus in 2005. His published writing in the field covers a leading coursebook and articles addressing a broad range of human rights issues, as do his teaching and lectures in over 25 countries including Israel and four Arab states.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict long ago captured his attention and remains a strong current concern. Steiner has joined a small group of scholars now preparing for publication a policy statement urging strong ongoing engagement by the United States in the effort to achieve a two-state solution.
