The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Director's Lunch with Abbas Maleki, Robert E. Wilhelm Fellow at Center for International Studies, MIT, in the Belfer Center Library (L369).

There is no greater diplomatic dilemma for the United States than Iran and, there are few experts in America who understand Iran from the inside out as well as Professor Abbas Maleki.

Abbas Maleki was Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister from 1988-1997, and one of the members of the negotiating team for ending the Iran-Iraq War (1987-1992). He is currently the Robert E. Wilhelm Fellow at MIT's Center for International Studies. He is an associate professor of energy policy in Department of Energy Engineering at Sharif University of Technology and Chairman of the International Institute for Caspian Studies. He is a senior associate of the Belfer Center's International Security Program.

Maleki has several publications on energy policy, energy security, public policy, Iran's foreign policy, Iran's Islamic Revolution, Central Asia, Transcaucasia, and Caspian Studies. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management, both from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran. He has a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from High University for Strategic Sciences, Tehran.

Maleki was recently appointed as member of Network of Global Agenda Councils of World Economic Forum (Davos) for 2011-12. He served as Director General of PetroPar Institute, a research arm of the National Iranian Oil Company, from 1998-2000.
