Shafeeq Ghabra is a Professor of Political Science at Kuwait University (1987-present). He was the founding president of the American University of Kuwait and served from 2003-2006. Ghabra directed the Center of Strategic and Future Studies at Kuwait University from September 2002 to January 2003. From 1998 to 2002 he has been the Director of the Kuwait Information office in Washington DC. From 1996 to 1999 he was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of The Social Sciences at Kuwait University. Dr. Ghabra produced and anchored; from Oct 2006-January 2008 a weekly talk show on Kuwait TV (The weekly Diwaniya). Ghabra writes weekly columns is a frequent writer to Alhayat daily and Middle East Transparent, and his columns are syndicated in several regional newspapers.
Ghabra earned his PhD in Government with focus on comparative politics, public administration and organizations in May 1987 from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his MA in Political Science from Purdue University in Indiana in 1983, and his BA in Government from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 1975. Dr. Ghabra has been a visiting professor at The College of William and Mary and a visiting scholar at George Mason University's Institute of Conflict Analysis and Resolution. He serves presently as Kuwait University Chair of the Consulting Committee for Faculty promotions and Appointments in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Dr. Ghabra has participated in interviews and debates on American, European, Canadian, and Arab television and radio broadcast programs. Broadcasters include CNN, National Public Radio, Fox News, Hannity and Colmes, Bill Oraily, Rita Cosby, Charlie Rose, Today’s show, wolf Blitzer’s Sunday show, Frontline, Hardball, the BBC, BBC Doha Debate, the Voice of America, C-Span, Orbit TV, AlJazeera TV, AlArabiyyah TV, Al-Hurrah TV, Cnbc Arabic, Radio Monte Carlo, Abu Dhabi TV, Lebanon Broadcasting Corporation (LBC), Idaaat with Turki Dakheel, and many other national, cable and satellite channels throughout the world.
