The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a Director's Lunch with Ambassador Glyn Davies, Special Representative for North Korea Policy, U.S. State Department, in the Belfer Center Library (L369).

Ambassador Glyn Davies, the top U.S. envoy on North Korea, cautioned Pyongyang not to miscalculate, saying the U.S. will take necessary steps to defend itself and its allies, including South Korea, where it bases nearly 30,000 U.S. forces. "We take all North Korean threats seriously enough to ensure that we have the correct defense posture to deal with any contingencies that might arise," Davies told reporters after testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as reported by the Associated Press. (March 7, 2013)

Glyn Davies is the Special Representative of the Secretary of State for North Korea Policy.  Appointed in January 2012, by Secretary of State Clinton to facilitate high-level engagement with our other Six-Party Talks partners, Special Representative Davies serves as a senior emissary for U.S. engagement with North Korea.  He oversees our involvement in the Six-Party Talks process, as well as other aspects of our security, political, economic, human rights, and humanitarian assistance policy regarding North Korea.

Special Representative Davies, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, served as the Permanent Representative of the United States to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations Office in Vienna from June 2009 until his appointment as Special Representative by Secretary Clinton in January 2012.  His prior assignments include Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and Executive Secretary of the National Security Council Staff.
