Academic Symposium on the Non-Proliferation Treaty
April 28th, 2015
UN Building, New York City
REGISTRATION CLOSES APRIL 10TH, 2015
The Netherlands government, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University, and the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, are jointly organizing an Academic Symposium at the start of the 2015 NPT Review Conference. The symposium will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York City on April 28th.
The main purpose of this event is to present and discuss worldwide research related to the NPT and to learn from early career scholars about present and future challenges and opportunities for the treaty. The symposium, which will include panel discussions and poster presentations, also aims to strengthen future decision making related to the NPT.
The Symposium will also feature a High Level Panel, which will focus on the main challenges of the NPT and in particular on the prospects for disarmament. Panelists will include the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bert Koenders, as well as former US Senator Sam Nunn and another prominent guest. The panel will be moderated by the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Ms. Angela Kane.
Attendance is open to anyone, including those who are not delegates and/or members of the press to the Review Conference. If you are interested in attending (a part of) the symposium, please fill out the digital registration form and submit by April 10th, 2015 at the latest. For applications received on time, the Dutch Permanent Mission to the UN in New York will be able to arrange, with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), entry passes to the UN building for those who do not already have access.
