The purpose of these lectures is to outline a new pathway for the evolution of a doctrine of human rights and duties in Islam that would be based on an ethical and spiritual understanding of these notions. This would produce an alternative understanding of these concepts rather than the normative and jurisprudential- or Sharia-based- path it has taken so far.

 

Afghanistan: Open Dialogue Seminar

Events in Afghanistan have been dominating the news lately, with elections, troop decisions, and Taliban activity all featured prominently.  As a result, our next session of the Open Dialogue, which will be next Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in L369, will feature CIA analyst and MPP '11 Sumit Sood, who has covered and traveled to Afghanistan since 2007 and will provide an introductory brief on some of the essential issues relevant to our future policy.  We will then open the floor to questions and general discussion.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.
