Experience

Mohammad Arzaghi is originally from Iran, and received his Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University, Providence, RI, in July 2005. His current research is in the areas of Urban Economics and Industrial Organization—specifically knowledge sharing and spillovers among small businesses using the establishment micro-level data. In addition, he has conducted research in areas of Economics of Advertising and Marketing, Migration, and Political Economics. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at the American University of Sharjah, U.A.E.

He served as a core member of the World Development Report team in 1998 and 1999 at the World Bank. He also worked as an economic adviser at the Qeshm Free Area in Iran in 1995 and 1996. His publication includes “Why Countries Are Fiscally Decentralizing?” with Vernon Henderson in the Journal of Public Economics, MIT. He is a member of American Economic Association, Regional Science Association International, and Economic Research Forum.

His education includes B.S. in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Tehran, M.A. in Economics from the Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech), A.M. and Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University. He has been a Research Associate at the Census Bureau’s Center for Economic Studies (CES) since summer 2000 and an active researcher at the Boston Census Research Data Center (BRDC) located at and sponsored by NBER, Cambridge MA.
