Experience

Walt Cooper is a Major in the United States Army and a PhD student in the Government Department at Harvard.  Walt graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1999 with a BS in Economics and a commission as an Infantry officer.  He spent the next two years studying towards an MSc in Economic and Social History at Oxford where he was a Rhodes Scholar.  Walt went on to serve as a rifle platoon leader and company executive officer in Korea.  He later joined the Special Forces branch and commanded a Special Forces Operational Detachment during two tours in Iraq.  After his coursework at Harvard, Walt will teach in the Social Sciences Department at West Point.  His research is in Security Studies, with a focus on the transnational aspects of civil conflict.
