Experience

Robert Corell is an ENRP Senior Research Fellow and a Senior Fellow in the Atmospheric Policy Program of the American Meteorological Society. Prior to January 2000, he was Assistant Director for Geosciences at the National Science Foundation where he had oversight for the Atmospheric, Earth, and Ocean Sciences and the global change programs of the NSF. While at NSF, Corell served as the Chair of the National Science and Technology Council's committee that has oversight of the U.S. Global Change Research Program. He served as chair and principal U.S. delegate to international bodies with interests in and responsibilities for climate and global change research programs. Corell is engaged in research concerned with the sciences of global change and with the interface between science and public policy.He is involved in research associated at the KSG concerned with science and technology for sustainable development and with methods and models for vulnerability studies, particularly associated with Arctic indigenous communities. He is Chair of the steering committee for the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, an international assessment of the impacts of climate variability, change, and UV increases. Prior to joining NSF, he was a Professor and academic administrator at the University of New Hampshire. Corell is an oceanographer and engineer, with Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. degrees from the Case Institute of Technology and MIT. He held appointments at the Woods Hole Institution of Oceanography, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and The University of Washington.
