"Rolf Mowatt-Larssen and William Tobey Named Senior Fellows"

Rolf Mowatt-Larssen, former director of the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and former head of the Central Intelligence Agency's WMD and terrorism efforts, has joined the Belfer Center as a senior fellow along with William H. Tobey, until recently the deputy administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation at the DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

"Center Hosts Al Gore and Top Energy/Climate Experts in Climate Solutions Summit"

The Belfer Center hosted former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore and 30 of the United States' top energy and climate experts in October for a "Solutions Summit" on the climate challenge ... participants brainstormed concrete solutions to producing carbon-free electricity, using as a starting point Gore’s July 2008 Generational Challenge to Repower America, which calls on the nation to produce 100 percent of America's electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within ten years.

A lively exchange of ideas and insights with faculty, fellows, and students from the greater Harvard community results in thought-provoking and informative sessions. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Senator John Kerry, former U.S. Senators Sam Nunn and Al Gore, and former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara are among those featured in the photo essay of the Belfer Center’s Spring 2009 newsletter.

William H. Tobey, deputy administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation at the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) from 2006 to 2009 and a Harvard Kennedy School graduate (MPP ‘84), will start February 2nd as a senior fellow at the Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, where he will work with the Center’s nuclear team.

President-elect Barack Obama announced in his radio address Saturday that he has selected Harvard's John P. Holdren to serve as Assistant to the President for Science and Technology in the new administration. The post, popularly known as "the President's science advisor," also includes directorship of the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President and requires Senate confirmation.

Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center hosted former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore and 30 of the United States' top energy and climate experts for a "Solutions Summit" on the climate challenge on October 21-22, 2008. The "Solutions Summit" recipe is one developed by Vice President Gore following a series of Belfer Center brainstorming events in 2005 and 2006 organized by Belfer Center Director Graham Allison and Gore.
