Harvard Kennedy School Presents 2009 Roy Award for Environmental Partnership to Mexico City Metrobus

Harvard Kennedy School presented the 2009 Roy Family Award for Environmental Partnership on Thursday, November 12, to the Mexico City Metrobus, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that reduces air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions while improving the quality of life and transportation options in one of the largest cities in the world. Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrarb, on behalf of the Mexico City government, joined other project partners in accepting the award during a ceremony and dinner at Harvard Kennedy School on Thursday, November 12.

Monica Duffy Toft Named 2008 Carnegie Scholar

Monica Duffy Toft, associate professor of public policy and director of the Belfer Center’s Initiative on Religion in International Affairs, has been named a 2008 Carnegie Scholar by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Toft is one of 20 scholars to receive the prestigious Carnegie Scholar designation for 2008 "for compelling ideas and commitment to enriching the quality of the public dialogue on Islam."

Gorbachev Calls for the Elimination of All Nuclear Weapons

President Mikhail Gorbachev and 14 other Russian arms control experts, along with 15 American and 15 international experts, are at the Kennedy School this week taking part in a conference — "Overcoming Nuclear Danger" — organized by the School's Belfer Center and the World Political Forum, founded by Gorbachev. The agenda includes discussion of the future of the INF treaty.

Ernest May: Bridging the Chasm Between History and Policy

On September 24, 2009, the Belfer Center hosted a seminar to discuss Ernest May's unique ability to serve as a bridge between history and policy. A member of the Belfer Center's board of directors until his death in June 2009, Ernest May was a world renowned historian of international relations and foreign policy and a member of the Harvard faculty for over 50 years. During the seminar, "Reflections on Ernest May: A Rare Bridge Between History and Policy," a number of May's colleagues, students, friends, and family members reflected on Ernest (Ernie) May, the man, and on his "extraordinary" contributions.

Belfer Center Named Top Think Tank for Work in Climate Economics and Policy

The International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG) has announced that Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is winner of the 2012 ICCG Climate Think Tank Ranking in the Global category. The Belfer Center was named by the ICCG as the most influential institution outside of Europe “working in the field of climate change economics and policy.” The European winner is the Basque Center for Climate Change (BC3) in Spain.
