Experience
Iqbal Z. Quadir was a Senior Associate of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs' Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program. He has been a fellow and a lecturer at Harvard’s John F Kennedy School of Government from 2001–2005. Prior to teaching at Harvard, he founded GrameenPhone in Bangladesh (1993–2000) to create universal access to telephone service in that country and self-employment opportunities for its rural poor. This project provided cellular coverage throughout Bangladesh and has provided telephone access to more than 100 million people. Earlier in his career, Quadir served as a vice president of Atrium Capital Corporation (1991–1993), an associate of Security Pacific Merchant Bank (1989–1991), and an associate at Coopers & Lybrand (1987–1989), all in New York, and a consultant to the World Bank in Washington, D.C., (1983–1985). He received an M.B.A. (1987) and an M.A.(1983) from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. with honors from Swarthmore College (1981).
