Experience

Tarik M. Yousef is a Senior Fellow with the Dubai Initiative at the Kennedy School of Government. He is also the Dean of the Dubai School of Government as well as Associate Professor in the School of Foreign Service and Shaykh Al-Sabah Professor in Arab Studies in the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, both at Georgetown University. He received his PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1997 and specializes in development economics and economic history, with a particular focus in the Middle East.

Dr. Yousef's research and policy experience includes working as an Economist in the Middle East Department of the International Monetary Fund; Visiting Professor in the Office of the Chief Economist in the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank; and Senior Advisor for the Millenium Project at the United Nations.  At present he is a nonresident Senior Fellow at the Wolfensohn Center for Development at the Brookings Institution.

"The Middle East: Between Progress and Conflict," an inaugural conference jointly hosted by The Dubai Initiative and the Dubai School of Government, was held on November 8, 2007 at the Kennedy School of Government.

The conference opened with remarks by Graham Allison, Nabil Ali Alyousuf, Tarik Yousef, and Vali Nasr. Lakhdar Brahimi, former Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General, opened the conference with his keynote speech, "Issues of War and Peace in the Middle East: A Few Remarks."
