On September 18-19, the Belfer Center’s Energy Technology Innovation Policy (ETIP) research group hosted a major conference on U.S. energy policy. Under the auspices of the Consortium for Energy Policy Research at Harvard, led by William Hogan and Louisa Lund, and with the cooperation of Harvard University Center for the Environment, ETIP brought together members of academia, research centers, government, business, and non-governmental organizations for intensive discussion on future energy policy directions for the United States. The Energy Technology Innovation Policy (ETIP) research group is intensely involved in the current debate in Washington, D.C. on future directions for U.S. transportation policy. Led by ETIP Director Kelly Sims Gallagher with contributions by Gustavo Collantes, John P. Holdren, Henry Lee, and Robert Frosch, ETIP's primary goal in this project is to contribute to the current policy debate about how to effectively limit or reduce oil consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions from the U.S. transportation sector.

With two substantial new grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Belfer Center's Energy Technology Innovation Project (ETIP) is embarking on a three-year project to study and recommend policies aimed at encouraging technological innovation in U.S., China, and India transportation sectors.
