Chuck Freilich
Senior Fellow, International Security Program
Chuck Freilich was Israel's deputy national security adviser. He is currently writing a book on Israeli national security decision making. His primary areas of expertise are U.S. Middle East policy, Israeli national security policy, and Middle Eastern affairs. He earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Patrick Johnston
Research Fellow, International Security Program/Intrastate Conflict Program
Patrick Johnston completed his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in July 2009. From 2007–2009, he was a predoctoral fellow at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC). He has published articles on insurgency and counterinsurgency, conflict resolution, and political economy.

Steven E. Miller is Director of the International Security Program, Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly journal, International Security, and also co-editor of the International Security Program's book series, Belfer Center Studies in International Security (which is published by the MIT Press).
Vali Nasr

Vali Nasr is a Senior Fellow with The Dubai Initiative, adjunct senior fellow for Middle East studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, and both professor of international politics and associate director of the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies at the Fletcher School, Tufts University.
Meghan O'Sullivan
Jeane Kirkpatrick Professor of International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School

Meghan L. O'Sullivan is the Jeane Kirkpatrick Professor of International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School. She teaches courses on American foreign policy, focusing on the Middle East and South Asia. Previously, she was Special Assistant to President George W. Bush and Deputy National Security Advisor for Iraq and Afghanistan.
Brigadier General (ret.) Kevin Ryan

Kevin Ryan served as deputy director for Army Strategy and Policy, regional director for Slavic States in the Office of Secretary of Defense, defense attache to Russia, chief of the POW/MIA Office in Moscow, and chief of staff of the Army Space and Missile Defense Command.

Rory Stewart is the Ryan Family Professor of the Practice of Human Rights, will become Director of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy as of January 1, 2009 and a member of the Belfer Center's Board of Directors.

Melissa Willard-Foster
Research Fellow, International Security Program
Melissa Willard-Foster is a UCLA political science Ph.D. candidate specializing in international relations, security studies, and quantitative methods. Her dissertation deals with the causes and consequences of foreign-imposed regime change.
