PDP Hosts WMD Workshop on the Day After a Nuclear Attack
Co-Directors Ashton B. Carter and William J. Perry hosted the latest in a series of WMD-related workshops, entitled "The Day After: Action in the 24 Hours Following a Nuclear Blast in a U.S. City." The off-the-record workshop, held at the Mayflower Hotel, focused on identifying and defining a critical set of actions to be taken now (or prepared now for action on the Day After) to help the U.S. and the international community at-large respond to, and recover from, a nuclear attack on a U.S. city.

PDP Co-sponsors Forum Event at Kennedy School featuring Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry: "Afghanistan: A Campaign Assessment"
Dr. Ashton B. Carter, Co-Director of the Preventive Defense Project, moderated a discussion with Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry in March titled "Afghanistan: A Campaign Assessment". Lieutenant General Eikenberry previously served as the Commanding General of Joint Forces Command – Afghanistan and assumes a new role as Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Commission on April 1, 2007.

PDP Principals lead U.S. Delegation to Korea
PDP Co-Directors Ashton B. Carter and William J. Perry led a U.S. delegation to the Republic of Korea to meet with prominent South Korean politicians, experts, potential South Korean Presidential candidates, and the U.S. ambassador and U.S. Forces commander.

PDP Co-Director Ashton B. Carter travels to Munich, Germany to participate in the Munich Conference on Security Policy
On February 9-11, 2007, PDP Co-Director Ashton B. Carter traveled to Munich, Germany as a delegate to the 43rd annual Munich Conference on Security Policy, formerly known as “Wehrkunde” and now frequently referred to as the “Security Davos”. Dr. Carter was a member of the U.S. Congressional delegation led by Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT). The theme of this year’s conference was “Global Crises – Global Responsibilities” and the topics addressed ranged from “Peace in the Greater Middle East” to “NATO in the Age of Global Challenges” to “Russia’s Role in World Politics”.

Ashton Carter appointed to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice’s International Security Advisory Board
At a November 6, 2006 swearing-in at the State Department, Preventive Defense Project Co-Director and Kennedy School of Government professor Ashton B. Carter became a member of Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice’s International Security Advisory Board (ISAB) which is charged with providing advice on a wide range of issues affecting national security.
