July 2007: MTA Staff and Fellows Attended the Annual Institute of Nuclear Materials Management Conference
- Matthew Bunn and Tom Bielefeld presented their paper "Reducing Nuclear and Radiological Terrorism Threats." This paper describes nuclear and radiological terrorism threats, analyzes the actions taken so far to address these threats, and recommends further actions going forward.
- Hui Zhang presented his paper "Off-Site Air Sampling Analysis And North Korean Nuclear Test." Zhang examines how to use the activity ratios of xenon isotopes to distinguish a test from a plutonium-bomb and a HEU bomb.
- Zhang also presented his paper "North Korea's Oct. 9 Nuclear Test: Successful or Failed?".
June 27 and 28 2007: MTA Hosted a Workshop about Decommissioning North Korea's Nuclear Facilities.
- Bunn and Zhang will prepare a report and brief congress about these issues in the fall of 2007. These briefings will be co-sponsored by the National Committee on North Korea.
