RESEARCH AREAS
STPP projects apply methods drawn from technology assessment, political science, economics, management, and law to study problems where science, technology, and policy intersect. Current concentrations of STPP research, policy outreach, and teaching include:
Managing the Atom: Conducts and disseminates policy-relevant research on nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, and nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
Energy Technology Innovation Policy: Seeks to determine and promote the adoption of effective strategies for developing and deploying cleaner and more efficient energy technologies in three of the biggest energy-consuming nations in the world: China, India, and the United States.
Science, Technology, and Globalization Project: Undertakes research, conducts training, and provides policy advice on interactions between technological innovation and globalization, with particular emphasis on implications for developing countries.
Policy for Innovation: Studies policy approaches to bridging the worlds of technical research, in which governments are deeply invested, and the world of markets and private investment.
STPP collaborates closely with other programs of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, as well as with other units of the Kennedy School (for example, the Center for Business and Government) and elsewhere on the Harvard campus (including the Law School and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences) -- in addition to targeted partnerships with groups at other institutions.
