Belfer Center Newsletter Summer 2009

Newsletter, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School

Summer 2009

Editor: Sharon Wilke, Associate Director of Communications

The Summer 2009 issue of the Belfer Center newsletter features recent and upcoming activities, research, and analysis by members of the Center community on critical global issues. This issue highlights recommendations by Belfer Center economic experts on the next best steps toward an economic recovery. The newsletter also profiles Center faculty, affiliates, and alumni who have been asked in recent weeks to serve in key positions of the Obama administration. Previous appointees were highlighted in the Spring 2009 issue.

The Summer 2009 newsletter also features: a Center-sponsored U.S.-China workshop on clean energy and carbon collection and sequestration; a meeting of Graham Allison and the Bipartisan Commission on U.S. Policy towards Russia with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev; a global climate policy architecture proposed by Jeffrey Frankel; and Center scholar suggestions for future U.S.-Afghanistan/Pakistan relations. In addition, the newsletter spotlights Venkatesh (Venky) Narayanamurti, the new director of the Center's Science, Technology, and Public Policy program, and features a Q&A about the future of Afghanistan with Rory Stewart, director of the Harvard Kennedy School's Carr Center for Human Rights Policy and member of the Belfer Center Board of Directors.
