The Preventive Defense Project (PDP) is pleased to welcome General (ret.) John P. Abizaid and General (ret.) James L. Jones onboard as Senior Advisors. As Senior Advisors, their insights from a combined 74 years of active duty service will be invaluable in helping the Project analyze problems across the full range of national security and foreign policy issues. Joseph S. Nye, Jr., a member of the Belfer Center's Board of Directors, is University Distinguished Service Professor, Sultan of Oman Professor of International Relations, and Dean Emeritus of the Kennedy School of Government. Nye has served in government as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Chair of the National Intelligence Council, and Deputy Under Secretary of State for Security Assistance, Science and Technology. His books include Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics, Understanding International Conflict, and The Power Game: A Washington Novel.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— Harvard University announced a two-year project to help identify key design elements of a future international agreement on climate change, drawing upon the ideas of leading thinkers from academia, private industry, government, and advocacy organizations, both in the industrialized world and in developing countries.

On June 20, 2007, PDP Co-Directors Ashton B. Carter and William J. Perry hosted a WMD-related workshop entitled "Heading Off a Nuclear Proliferation Cascade." The off-the-record workshop, held in Washington, DC, explored the likelihood of a nuclear cascade in the next decade and the consequences of this possibility. Participants discussed potential cascades in East Asia and the Middle East, and recommended country, regional and global strategies to address this proliferation challenge.

Carnegie Corporation of New York announced today a $2 million grant to the Broadmoor Improvement Association for the reconstruction, restocking and refurnishing of the Rosa F. Keller Library and Community Center, a building that serves as the historic Broadmoor neighborhood’s social and cultural hub. The reconstructed building, located in the heart of the historic Broadmoor neighborhood, will house a state-of-the-art library and a vibrant community center. The Keller Library was destroyed both as a physical structure and as a library repository during hurricane Katrina.
