"One cannot win a war against an aggressive, expansionist adversary, simply by fighting a limited war against its proxies."

"Legacy of Failure"
Op-Ed, Ynet News
By Joshua Gleis, Former Associate, International Security Program, 2008-2009; Former Research Fellow, International Security Program, 2006-2008
"Blaming Olmert for all that is wrong in Israeli society today would be like blaming Lyndon Johnson for all the failures of the Vietnam War. Just as history has shown that John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon share some of the responsibility for America’s actions in Vietnam, so too must we recall the failures of former Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Barak in securing the Jewish State."

"Peace In Our Time?"
Op-Ed, Human Events
By Chuck Freilich, Senior Fellow, International Security Program
"As yet, no one has devised a fully effective counter-terrorism policy, or for winning in Iraq, or for dealing with Iran. Indeed, there probably is no one single policy, but a cumulative combination of various different approaches."

"A Palestinian Refugee Camp?"
Op-Ed, Human Events
By Chuck Freilich, Senior Fellow, International Security Program
"The "oil curse", not "oil blessing", has been an almost unmitigated calamity for the Arab world, allowing the regimes to buy off those domestic elements whose support they have needed and to keep international pressures for reform, largely American, at bay."

"Lebanese 'Defensive Shield' -- No Problem"
Op-Ed, The Jerusalem Post
By Joshua Gleis, Former Associate, International Security Program, 2008-2009; Former Research Fellow, International Security Program, 2006-2008
"...Similar calls by the world community for investigations into the recent fighting in Lebanon are absent. Missing are the cries of the Arab world for an investigation into the deaths of innocent Palestinians. Gone are the demands by human rights organizations to access the area and scrutinize the actions of the Lebanese Army vis-a-vis the Palestinians....Plainly, while it is acceptable for Lebanese to deal with the Palestinians as they see fit, it is not okay for the Israelis to defend themselves from Palestinian violence."

The Essence of Longing: General Erez Gerstein and the War in Lebanon
Book
By Ehud Eiran, Former Associate, International Security Program, 2010–2011; Former Research Fellow, International Security Program, 2005–2010
The Essence of Longing goes beyond Gerstein's biography and a detailing of the operations he led: It is also the story of Israel's counter insurgency wars in Lebanon in the 1980s and 1990s and the tale of the generation that fought there and leads the Israel Defense forces today.
